1. I Just Like Them
If I don’t like my pet sitter, I’ll never feel totally happy leaving my dog in their care. The whole experience should be positive, even fun. Personality counts.
2. They Care About Earning My Trust
Trust is earned with every interaction, every single day, one step at a time. I’m paying for peace of mind. If something just doesn’t feel right, they may not be the right sitter for me.
Here’s how trust is built over time:
- They had great testimonials and their website looked professional, so I feel comfortable calling for more information.
- The call went really well, so I arranged an at-home consultation.
- We met face-to-face, and everything looks great. I feel comfortable giving them a shot.
- Every time I come home and find my dog happy and healthy, that trust grows and gets a bit stronger.
3. They Give My Dog Personalized Attention
The whole point to hiring a pet sitter is so that my dog can receive undivided attention…not to be one of 7 dogs on a pack walk. Otherwise, I could just leave her at day care or board her at a kennel.
4. They’re Available When I Need Them
If they’re not available at the times I need, then nothing else really matters.
5. I’m Always in the Loop
My sitter is easy to talk to, listens well, takes notes and keeps me informed of any issues that impact the health and well being of my dog. Most importantly, they respond to my calls and emails quickly.
6. They Live Close By
This makes it much easier for them to respond to any last minute requests or emergencies. It also greatly reduces the chance that traffic, car breakdowns or overbooking affect our scheduled visits.
7. Their Policies are Fair and Flexible
After all, the whole point to having a pet sitter is because my life is often hectic and unpredictable. They should be sensitive to that reality.
8. They’re a Full Time Professional
I don’t want to come second to other commitments like school or a day job that will make it difficult for them to accommodate my schedule.
9. They Don’t Outsource To Someone Else
I hired them, so I want them…not some random employee.
10. They Have Enough Experience Caring for Dogs.
How much experience is enough? Enough so that they can properly care for my dog, protect them and keep them safe.
11. They’re Pet First Aid Certified.
The better prepared my sitter is, the higher the chances that my dog will stay safe, healthy and happy.
12. They’re Insured
Insurance is an inexpensive way to protect me, the client, in the event that something bad happens.
13. They Have Great References
I’ve called them, and they all love my sitter. Good start!
14. I Can Afford Them
In fact, I can’t afford not to have them. They make my life and the life of my dog better. To me, they’re worth every penny.
